VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

for Members

 

Photography

Members of this committee take pictures of the TGC’s various activities, then send them to appropriate people to be put on Facebook or our Website.

Program/Speakers
This committee chooses speakers for the TGC Meetings. The committee invites speakers, introduces them at the meeting, makes sure the speaker is paid and sends the speaker a
thank you note.
Raffatunity at Meetings
Committee prepares items to be raffled at TGC meetings. Displays items and sells tickets at the general meetings. Winners are announced at the end of the meeting.
Refreshments
This committee provides drinks refreshments through sign ups for the regular TGC Meeting.
Scholarships
The chair updates and distributes scholarship applications to area high schools and colleges. Committee meets to choose scholarship winners according to set criteria. They also present the checks at the scholarship night sponsored by the winner’s school.
Smokey Bear Coloring Contest
This committee reaches out to schools, scout troops, after school programs, youth programs, and similar groups. Children from first through fifth grade can participate. Chair provides required information and coloring paper to participants
Sunshine
Sends greeting cards to those who are ill or have lost a loved one.
Tours and Trips
This committee plans garden related trips for garden club members to enjoy together.
Turlock Garden Tour
The TGC sponsors a Spring Garden Tour each year where gardens in Turlock or nearby communities are featured. The Garden Tour is the main fundraiser for the Turlock Club. Proceeds benefit community projects and scholarships for college bound students. This project requires all members to lend a hand in some way.
Video Production
Produces a slideshow of the monthly meeting highlights that is shown during social time before monthly meetings.
Website
Designs and maintains the TGC website. Posts the activities, videos, events and membership form for the TGC. Sets up online purchases for membership dues and Garden Tour tickets.
Yearbook
Produces a yearbook for TGC members that includes a list of officers, committee chairs, past presidents, club history, bylaws, standing rules, sponsors, a calendar of events and the membership directory with member photos. Arranges printing of the yearbook to be available at the September meeting.


 

Turlock Garden Club offers many opportunities for members to use their skills and talents to volunteer. Read these brief descriptions and consider where you might become part of a committee! Contact any appropriate committee chairperson for information.

 

Carnegie Arts Center Roses
Maintains the white roses surrounding the Carnegie Art Center. They meet in January for pruning and occasionally during the summer to deadhead the roses.

Club Ambassadors
Club Amassadors welcome and support new and current members and encourage successful involvement in the Club.
Downtown Flower Pots
The downtown potting committee plants and maintains 40 planters in the historic downtown district of Turlock. They meet every 3rd Monday to maintain the plants. It is broken into 5 blocks and there is a captain and committee for each block.
Garden of the Season
This committee continually looks at beautiful front yard gardens in our community and awards a lawn sign that states the yard if Garden of the Season. Acknowledgement is posted on Facebook.
Greeters
This committee greets members and visitors as they arrive at the meeting and invites them to sign the register. New members are given Club information and are introduced by Club president during the meeting.
Historian
The Historian collects, keeps, and maintains news clippings, pictures, letters and other items pertaining to events and activities of the Club.
Jessica’s House
Jessica’s House offers grief support for children and their families grieving a death. The committee meets at Jessica’s House to plant and maintain raised beds filled with plants that are pleasing to all of the senses. These beds are designed for the children.
Junior Gardener's Event
This committee meets to organize activities for this event and purchase children's age appropriate books to be distributed at the Turlock Farmer's Market once a year. This event may include planting of flower starts. Funding is solicited from the community.
Membership
This committee collects membership applications and dues. Chair also keeps an updated list of all the TGC members with their addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. Database is used for the Yearbook.
New Member Tea
The New Member Tea is held in the fall to welcome and introduce new members who have joined the Club over the previous year. This committee organizes all aspects of the tea including invites, table decor, food, and new member gifts.
Penny Pines
Penny Pines is a California Garden Club project that aims to aid in renewing National Forests throughout California. Committee collects funds at monthly meetings, sends donations to the Penny Pines Project, and provides a certificate to the donor for each $68 donation collected.
